I got my Early Renaissance Shirt today, and slipped it on to see how it fit. I have a 39-inch chest, and I bought this in a ‘medium’.
It fits nicely, comfortably. The sizes in the “What’s my Size” guide seem to run a bit smaller than stated.
I actually could have fit a ‘Large’, had I wanted the shirt to be extra full, and extra billowy, like the model in the listing photos.
My advice on this shirt is to order the next size up if you are near the end measurement in the “What’s my Size” guide category.
The construction of the shirt is good: it is well sewn, and kind of a lighter-cotton material, but not so light as to be very gauzy like the hippie-shirts from India. The appearance though, is the best part. This shirt looks very cool! A very ‘renaissance-poet’ sort of vibe. Handsome and sharp.
Super comfortable too! The sleeves are very full and billowy (there’s that word again: Is ‘billowy’ even an actual word?)
Were you a hungry thief skulking around a village or town market, I daresay you may be able to get a duck, and couple of chickens concealed in each sleeve! We eat tonight!
I needed a sort of ‘catch-all, go with anything’ shirt, and this works perfectly. It is perfect for wearing under other clothing when you want the large, full, billowy, sleeves to touch off or accentuate a doublet, or vest, weskit, or jacket.
It will suffice for a dressy ‘Lord, Duke, Knight, King, Prince’ or other aristocrat, royal, landed gentry, or Yeoman. It will also work well for your poet, troubadour, mummer, busker, minstrel, or your average renaissance ‘regular-man-about-town’.
It is a very handsome and striking shirt. The price is good, and the shirt is worth the price.
Very pleased. I declare this shirt a full-on Five-Star Early Renaissance Shirt!
