If you are looking to protect your neck during battle, make sure that you are wearing a piece of armour like the Aventail. Made from 16-gauge mild steel, this chainmail armour piece has a leather collar at the top. This collar allows it to attach to a helmet, such as Klappvisier Bascinet Helmet (AB0427), European Pig Faced Helmet (AB1400), and Great Fighting Bascinet Helmet (AB2971), each sold separately.
This chainmail mantle features a 4-in-1 pattern construction of butted round rings. A 4-in-1 pattern consists of four chainmail rings woven through another ring. The 8-millimeter rings have a zinc-plated finish. This aventail makes a great addition to any knights armour or medieval armour costume.
Please be aware that aventails like this are not designed to be worn on their own. They are made to be attached to helmets. Listed above are the item numbers of the helmets that this chainmail piece are most compatible with.

Nice aventail but a little challenging to fit to the helmet. You will need a larger than normal leather punch to make your own holes and measure carefully to make sure it is centered on the back part of the helmet before working your way forward on both sides.

I had a bascinet and purchased this to add the aventail. The zinc is a bit shiny and it is butted. That being said, the construction is superb and it fit my helm without a problem. I did have to fit the aventail up a bit higher than expected, but that actually turned out to have a more proper shape. I also sewed my own padding under the aventail that also is needed to keep the proper shape and protection.
