What can I do at a Renaissance Faire in Pennsylvania?

Ren faires are filled with all sorts of fun activities. There are usually booths for food and shopping. They will provide a range of food and drinks for you to try. Many Ren faires will have live music and entertainment. This can include live bands, jousting, shows, or performers.

Also, you can dress up in medieval clothing or wear a fantasy outfit. Some faires have weekend themes for you to enjoy. Others follow a made-up storyline with some characters that interact with guests. Regardless, faires and festivals are intended for people to have fun.

What happens at an SCA event?

To begin with, SCA stands for Society for Creative Anachronism. The organization contains many groups. They focus on historical reenacting. The groups can cover various styles and looks. This range of styles includes the Vikings, the Renaissance, and more. Some SCA participants act as officers and rulers over their part of the organization, such as a king, queen, or baron.

While the exact rules vary from group to group, they strive for as much historical accuracy as possible. Many SCA events will be battles. The most famous SCA event is Pennsic. It happens right in Pennsylvania! Others focus on the artistic and scientific aspects of reenacting. In fact, many groups will have events dedicated to these topics. Make sure to reach out to your local organizations to find out all their rules and events.

What happens at a LARP event?

Most LARP events, or Live-Action Role-Playing, will feature people dressed up as a character. It is often of their own creation. Many LARP events are battles where people will fight with foam weapons. While the rules differ from group to group, the basic rule to any LARP battle is having fun while keeping safe in the process.
