The Brown Sakabato Reverse Blade Katana is as unique as it is elegant. Wield this katana as a reminder of unique Japanese weaponry and the impact of its heritage on sword culture.
A Tribute to the Meiji Era
Forged from 1045 carbon steel, this reverse blade sword is a faithful replica inspired by historical katanas and anime. Carbon steel is known for its strength and durability. This katana, also known as a sakabato, can be wielded with both hands. The sakabato, better known as the reverse blade katana, has a unique blade design. The cutting edge is along the inside of the blade instead of the outer curve like traditional uchigatana. This results in a sharpened mune, also known as the blade’s spine.
This is a fully functional weapon. It’s great for practice cuts and display. The sharpened edge on the inside of the blade is rated at a Rockwell hardness of 45. The blade has been differentially hardened to reveal a stunning visible hamon line. Hamon is the wavy pattern close to the cutting edge of the blade.
Further down, the brass habaki, or blade collar is anchored to the guard by the notched seppa. Seppa are two small washers placed on both sides of the crossguard. The tsuba crossguard is fashioned in the Namako Sukashi style, named after the cucumber-like cutouts around the guard. In fact, Namako Sukashi loosely translates to “sea cucumber openwork.” The outer edges on this brass guard are engraved with Japanese symbols and iconography.
The wooden handle is wrapped in a layer of faux white ray skin, then wrapped with brown polyester cord, known as tsuka-ito. Embossed on the pebbled faux ray skin is a zinc alloy menuki with a brass finish. Menuki refers to the decoration on the handle just underneath the tsuka-ito wrapping. At the bottom, the hilt is wrapped through a black kashira pommel.
This inverted edge katana comes with a black lacquered saya scabbard and a certificate of authenticity. The scabbard has a brown sageo, also known as a cord tied around the scabbard for tying onto your belt. The sageo is tied to a kurigata, known as the protrusion on the scabbard. The protrusion has a brass spacer. Please note the cords on the scabbard and the handle may not be as pictured.

Unique, stylish, and authentic, this carbon steel katana makes a great addition to your arsenal of Japanese and cosplay weapons.
