This sword, inspired by the longswords and greatswords of the medieval period, also draws its inspiration from the titanic Scottish claymores that helped define medieval shock tactics. This medieval greatsword is forged from 5160 high carbon steel, a chromium-alloyed spring steel that produces an incredibly resilient and flexible blade. This type of steel is also resistant to rust and boasts an impressive edge retention. Being a fully functional weapon, this large medieval sword is forged with a full tang. Having a full tang means the blade is forged as one piece that extends into the handle. This gives it strength and balance.

As with any sword, the most important feature is the blade. You can choose to have the blade Sharpened or Unsharpened. This knightly two-handed sword has a straight, double-edged blade with a fuller. The blade also has a gradual and distal taper. The gradual taper means the blade’s profile gets narrower toward the tip, while the distal taper means it gets thinner toward the tip. As for the fuller, it’s designed to remove excess weight from the blade without compromising its balance or integrity, making it lighter and easier to wield as a result while bolstering the cutting edges. The Darksword Armory logo is engraved on the base, so you know you’re wielding a weapon crafted with quality and authenticity.

Protecting your grip is a cruciform-style crossguard made from mild steel. Each quillon curves toward the blade slightly, Darksword’s personalized touch of this medieval fantasy sword. The quillon block has angled points in the middle. Just underneath the crossguard is a wooden handle wrapped in genuine black leather. This handle can be wielded with both hands and with room to spare, just like a historical greatsword or claymore.

At the bottom, this two-handed steel sword has an Irish ring hilt pommel. It’s reminiscent of historical Irish swords, blending medieval designs with the fantasy and imagination of Darksword Armory’s skilled swordsmiths. The ring pommel has part of the tang in the middle, locked in place with the peen block at the bottom for reinforced durability. The ring pommel is intentionally oversized for adding balance to the blade.
