Every good commander knows an army marches on its stomach, and as such, the Roman legions were in need of good equipment like the Romano-British Cooking Iron so they could cook their meals on campaign.
Great for Your Contubernium
This historical Roman cooking stove is crafted from blackened steel. This ensures a tough, robust, and historically accurate cooking iron for your reenactment kit. Whether you’re camping on your own or on campaign with your legion, this Roman cooking iron is a reliable choice.
The design is inspired by historical evidence of a gridiron, or craticula, used by Romans and Britons during the Roman occupation of Britain. Like its historical inspiration, the cooking iron is made of four bars with two of them ending in short legs and turned out feet. In the middle, two bars are straight and the inner bars bend to form omega shapes bound in a rectangular tie.
The gridiron’s four legs allow it to stand over hot coals and can cook whatever you place on top of it. The Romano-British gridiron stove is perforated to reduce unnecessary weight and create a stable platform to rest your pots, pans, and other cookware pieces. There is a large hanging ring in front for easy carrying.
