Medieval garments like the Penda Suede Jerkin originally served as armour padding, but the design soon became a part of everyday dress. This predecessor to the modern vest suits many roles and is a great addition to your wardrobe. The jerkin is handmade from suede leather. The cap sleeves and stitched hemline give it a layered look. More stitching highlights the lace-up neckline. Split leather strings and metal eyelets adjust the fit on either side of the waist. Whether you create a historical character or one inspired by fantasy, the Penda Suede Jerkin is a fine choice in medieval apparel.
This item is handmade, therefore, it may vary slightly from what is shown above.

Purchased this dark brown Suede jerkin a month ago, Good weight to it, very period, ties up on the sides, can be worn by itself or over a tunic. Very nice look, works well with a belt and 3 weapons at its sides!

This was an impulse purchase that has become one of my favorite pieces of clothing to wear. Love the historically inspired design. I almost wish for cooler weather just so that I have an excuse to wear it more often. It works flawlessly for a wide range of time periods & outfits. Well-constructed with soft suede leather, this jerkin is built to last. It looks as good in person as it does in the photos & it feels even better when you are wearing it. It has quality that you can see & feel. The cap sleeves are a nice bonus & make your shoulders look wider. I ordered the “Large/XL” size (in Brown) thinking that was what I needed since my chest measures around 42-43 inches. It looked great & fit nicely, but I expected it to be tighter on me since the side laces were already cinched up as tight as they could go right out of the package. I had plenty of room for a bulky shirt to go underneath & wasn’t struggling to breathe. I figured that I bought the wrong size, so I ordered the Black jerkin in the Small/Medium size. They both looked pretty much the same size as I put one over the other to compare. But, when I tried the Black one on, it seemed (“seemed” being the key word here) to be a little more fitted in the waist & hips. There was still room for a shirt underneath & my waist & hips still had room to move. The chest & shoulder area looked & felt the same as the Large/XL. If one of them is too big for me, I certainly can’t see or feel a significant difference. I will be wearing a belt with both anyway. If I get fatter, I will loosen up the side laces. The end result is that I have two, AWESOME jerkins in Black & Brown to diversify my outfits thanks to Medieval Collectibles’ great selection & fast service.

Great misc. use piece. Can be used as a ‘casual’ wear style or over chainmail for a lighter style of armoring.

I really love, love, love, my new Penda Suede Jerkin! It is very well constructed, too. I have a 39-inch chest, and accidentally ordered the ‘small/medium’; which in hindsight, I am glad I did.
It fits nicely with a shirt worn under it, for me.
I love leather/suede medieval clothing because it is so ‘solid’… Durable, tough, and rugged.
I imagine there was likely alot of it about during the medieval periods.
You could eat what it came wrapped in, and it would last you as a garment for years, under the proper care.
A good garment in inclement weather too.
Leather has also been the average man’s armor for centuries as well.
This jerkin looks very good also: very medieval, with its vaulted cap-sleeves, and attractive lacings set about it (which are, of course, fully functional for custom-sizing the jerkin to your own body’s comfort.
I purchased this jerkin, in black, along with the Early Renaissance Shirt; which looks awesome under this jerkin!
My colorful slit-sleeved shirts will pair very nicely with the style, and basic-black of this jerkin.
The suede-leather it is made of is soft, yet thick. The laces are split-leather, with ample amounts of cord.
This is just an excellent all-suede-leather jerkin. The price is also very good for a leather garment of this quality, very reasonable.
I am very happy with this item all around, and may now buy a second brown one as well.
I rate this sound, sturdy, well made jerkin—a resounding five-stars!

I still cannot, for the life of me, understand why they call it a Panda Suede Jerkin?
It wouldn’t be actual Panda-leather would it? Aren’t Pandas endangered? I don’t think they skinned Pandas even in the Middle Ages, did they?
They’d have to travel all the way to China just to skin one.
I just don’t look anything remotely like a Panda when I wear this, either. So that can’t be the reason for the name.
Fear not though, gentle swain: you will NOT look like a Panda when you wear this jerkin!
I called and was reassured that no Pandas were harmed in the production of this jerkin!
