Meet the Greek Campovalano Xiphos, a blade worthy of the ancient Greek heroes and Italic warriors alike. Embrace the warrior culture of Italic peoples like the Samnites who carved out a proud kingdom from humble beginnings.
Handmade Samnite Craftsmanship
Before the rise of the Roman Republic, numerous Greek colonies flourished as independent states that gradually became the Italic peoples. One of those colonies was Campovalano, where numerous xiphos swords like this one were found dating back to the 6th Century BCE. Italic tribes like the Samnites, Etruscans, and Umbrians were fearsome warriors who had fought the armies of the Republic before being assimilated into Roman culture, and this Greek xiphos sword is a reminder of their warrior history.
Forged as one piece from C60 high-carbon steel, this sword is a reproduction of swords found in the Campovalano and Alfedena necropolises where prominent Italic warriors were buried. Not only is this sword forged as one piece, the hilt is also made of steel. The unsharpened, double-edged blade has a leaf-like shape for more power on the cut and thrusting attacks. This blade has a medial ridge acting like a reinforced spine.
Moving down to the hilt, the steel guard, grip, and pommel are steel plates laid over genuine bone. These plates are riveted together for strength and durability. You can wield this Italic Greek sword one-handed, allowing you more mobility while leaving your off-hand free. At the bottom, the cylindrical pommel adds a weighted counterbalance to the sword.
This Greek sword comes with a wooden scabbard wrapped in brown leather. True to the historical swords found in the necropolises, this scabbard has brass fittings at the topmount and endmount. The topmount has embossed rings for added detail. The endmount, also called the chape, is genuine bone with a fish-tail brass fitting laid over it. Attached to this scabbard are two straps, one with a buckle and the other with prepunched holes. You can wear this historical reenactment sword around your waist thanks to these straps.
