Cold Steel Craftsmanship

Forged from 1060 high-carbon steel, this iconic zweihander sword is inspired by the great swords of late medieval warfare. Carbon steel is renowned for its strength and durability. The design comes from a style of great sword called the Montante, a zweihander version that’s different from the more conventionally known Flamberge. The Montante is characterized by its straight blade instead of the wavy blade of the Flamberge. At 62 inches in length, this Montante is true to its warrior heritage, striking fear and admiration when wielded with both hands.

Starting with the blade, it’s fully sharpened and double-edged with a distinct fuller design. The middle fuller runs along the forte down to the terzo. The forte is the shorter, stronger side of the blade and the terzo is the middle. Just beneath the forte, two parrying hooks keep your grip from slipping onto the blade and are excellent for catching enemy weapons. The ricasso, located in between the parrying hooks and the crossguard, is flattened to accommodate a modified grip for increased control over the blade. This ricasso has two fullers.

Moving down the sword, the wide crossguard curls toward the blade slightly and ends in triangular points. The crossguard has an angled center chappe that extends over the base of the blade like a langet. The long hardwood handle is wrapped in black leather with two bands in the center. The bottom half of the handle is studded. These bands and studs give you a secure hold. Adding a counterbalance to the handle, the fluted scent-stopper has a peen block for extra stability.

This Montante comes with a black scabbard. At the top, the scabbard has a special throat for storing the parrying hooks when sheathed. This leaves the ricasso bare by design. The chape at the end ensures the tip of the blade doesn’t poke through the bottom.
