If you’re embodying a Roman general, elite Praetorian Guard, or are just looking for a great Roman helmet to add to your collection, the Ludovisi Roman Battle Helmet is a great choice. Step into the age of Imperial Rome wearing this ornate helmet.

Historical Roman Design

Forged from solid brass, this Roman helmet is designed in the popular Ludovisi style. It takes inspiration from the Ludovisi sarcophagus. This historical discovery dates back to the 3rd Century AD and is an intricately decorated Roman tomb.

Like the Hellenic helmets that came before it, this Roman general helmet has a red hair plume running from the back of the neck to the top of the skull. The base is intricately embossed with stylized lions, each in a different position. This pattern adds a dynamic sense of style to the design. Adorning the top of the skull is intricately embossed swirling patterns. These swirls are notched for added detail.

The front visor has an open face with hinged cheek plates. Both cheek plates are embossed with symbols relevant to the Roman legions. Four eagle wings spread out from a center quatrefoil flower, framed on either side by notched patterns. The eagle was a symbol of victory for the Roman legions, often associated with Jupiter and Mars. On both sides of the flower, the notched patterns are bundles of sticks tied together, representing the unity and strength of Rome.

The helmet’s brow is embossed with more lions, complete with a lion’s face wreathed by laurels in the center. The laurel wreath was a symbol of military pride and victory in Roman culture, and when paired with the fearsome lion, it creates a formidable militaristic presence.
