Crafted from polystone, this statuette is inspired by Hel, the goddess of death in Norse mythology. Polystone is a resin composite that utilizes powdered stone to create a sculpture that is lightweight like resin, but possessed of a metallic bronze luster. Helheim is her domain, where she receives the souls of those who did not fall in battle. Every detail, from her scythe down to her animal companions, is hand-painted with a passion for the Norse sagas. Hel is painted with a bronze finish, giving her antique, vintage charm.

Starting with the goddess of the underworld, she has wild foliage for hair. True to her mythical depictions, one half of her face is living while the other half is dead. Perched on her shoulders are two ravens carved to look like they’re attached to the foliage around her head. In her left hand, she holds her mighty scythe as if to reap the souls of the dead. A serpent coils around the scythe.

Hel wears a magnificent cloak carved to resemble fur. She also wears a blue dress with golden accents. Attached to her belt is an hourglass, representing the passage of time and inevitable doom for mortals. Moving down to the base, there is a black dog with a golden collar by her side. On the other side of her, there is a snarling bronze wolf. In front, there is a plaque that reads “Hel” on the base.
