I am not certain where to begin this review. This Authentics Flail is the end-all be-all BEAST of murderous heavy battle flails. The blackened three-pound iron ball is bristling with ten three-inch steel spikes. The chain between the haft and spiked-ball is around two-feet long. Every blackened link is welded closed. The haft is a blackened hardwood, with the ball and chain affixed to a langet-type steel ‘saddle’ attachment, a piece of iron with a half-hoop top piece through which the welded-chain link is affixed. I have several other types of flails in my medieval weapon collection. I have one, two, and three steel-ball flails (smooth, no spikes), and one other three-ball flail on which the three steel balls have short, geometrically shaped ‘points’ designed to deform armor; but they all pale in comparison with this weapon. A very stout and strong foot soldier could quite literally stop an armored horse with this flail at full swing. This flail is that fierce! The long spikes would easily pierce plate armor, shield, helmet, chainmail, akaton, and still want flesh and bone for desert. This is a serious battle/war flail. The sole purpose of this item is to dispatch the life of a foe. This isn’t designed to only dent an opponent’s armor, or hopefully cause severe blunt-force trauma to the head in a helm; no, this flail is a one hit wonder. Working, seriously wicked flails, are under a lot of physical stresses and strains; the design is simple, yet the forces that must be withstood are great. This flail is very, very, well built. It is the real deal. This flail would undoubtedly and easily weather actual medieval battles. It has been said that a buyer will get what they pay for: cheap price usually denotes a lesser quality product; and a higher price, a better quality product. This Authentics Flail bares out the old “you get what you pay for” adage, as this was a bit costly for me: but now that I own it, have had it in my hands, and have stuck it deep in a dead tree…I must say the quality is matchless! Worth it!! A museum quality piece of very impressive, very wicked, medieval weaponry. So, even though I was forced to sell my second-born child to buy this, it was well worth it (and since the child was second-born, he couldn’t stand to inherit my title and my lands anyway, so he’d likely just end up in a monastery). I give this formidable Authentics Flail a hearty Five Stars for quality, function, and terror factor for an enemy.
