You hear your commander give orders for the battle. You are ready to take on the enemy as you wield the 3rd Century Roman Spatha Sword. Made from EN45 high carbon steel, this functional sword has a straight, double-edged blade with two wide fullers running down its length. The hilt features a disk-shaped crossguard and pommel. A brass ridge runs along the sides of each circular disk. Between the pommel and guard, there is a ridged grip. Hexagonal brass rings form the ridges and separate each wooden section of the grip. Finally, the sword comes with a wooden scabbard. Red leather wraps around the leather. The scabbard has black cord bands and brass fittings, including a loop for hanging the scabbard from a belt, not included. Bring the 3rd Century Roman Spatha Sword to a historical reenactment or add it your Roman sword collection. It looks great on display.

This is a pretty good sword for the price. The blade is well made and has the springy rebound you want in good sword steel. The double fuller looks cool and mine are straight and consistent. The handle is made of brass and solid wood that looks like oak. The scabbard is nice with brass fittings and looks correct for the time period. The blade is tip heavy, which was desired when swung from horseback so that the mass of the blade does the work. The handle is a bit round for indexing the blade in hand, but I find I can keep the edge aligned, so that is not as big an issue as I feared at first. The reason I don’t give it 5 stars is because it has a threaded pommel nut, and is not a “peened” tang sword. Because of this the handle has a little play in it. Overall this sword looks and feels great and is well worth the price.
