Designed by HEMA practitioners, the Xtreme Synthetic Sparring Longsword Black Blade is ideal for training and working on your sword skills. It mimics the form, function, and weight of a real sword, without the dangers of a metal blade.
This sword has been crafted to feature enhanced durability. The black synthetic blade is made from a high-impact polymer. It is designed to flex in the last one-third of its length towards the tip. This allows for safer thrusting than with conventional wooden practice weapons.
The blade and tang feature a high-tensile-steel rod core. It runs along the full length of the handle. This removes the typical handle flex often associated with other synthetic training swords.
The ball-shaped finials on the guard and the rounded pommel are designed for sparring safety. They allow virtually no pointed or sharp edges that could catch, pierce, or puncture. Meanwhile, the grip is made from a rubber-like material that is designed to absorb the impact of strikes. It also provides a tight fit to the tang.
This sword is also approximately two-thirds the weight of a traditional steel sword. It has a slight bias of weight balance that focuses towards the hilt, ensuring a lower force of impact when swung.
Also, this sword features interchangeable parts, allowing you to create a variety of blades. I’ve been working on teaching myself Fiore longsword techniques from Guy Windsor’s books, and this sword is an excellent, rugged training weapon. The balance point is perfect, and the grip is comfortable and non-slipping both in bare hands and with gloves. I’ve compared this against the similar Cold Steel Synthetic bastard sword and the Xtreme Synthetic Sparring Longsword is miles above its competitor — Cold Steel’s sword has a very fat, rigid blade, an ugly cross guard, poor blade balance and sharp ridges (that I had to sand down) around the pommel. The Xtreme Synthetic sparring sword has none of these, and is completely modular, so if you do somehow break something, you can just get a replacement piece.
