The haft is long, straight grain hickory. With the hafts length, the axe works well with two-handed use. At the top of the haft, the axe head connects to the haft with a single socket. The axe head itself is single edged and asymmetrical. It extends past the socket more on the top than the bottom. The points on the ends of the blades edge allow for better maneuvers in combat such as parrying or hooking shields. This is a very nice piece. The haft was completely straight and smooth. It is long enough for two-handed use but still light enough to be nimble and controllable. Not clumsy or overweight by any means. There is no knob (enlarged end part) so with a powerful swing it can fly right through your hands unless you add something for grip.
The blade was nice and functionally sharp. There were 2 stickers on the blade, one from American Tomahawk and one that said ‘Thailand’. There was a little rattle between the head and haft but it was not what I would call ‘loose’.
A really nice Viking piece ready for any customization you have in mind.
