Rich with historical charm, the Jefferson Library was artfully created as a tribute to the well-read and avidly curious president. Constantly drawing on books to fuel his own creativity, he could not imagine life without them. It was this passion that inspired his offer to sell his impressive collection at a generously low price to benefit the nations public after the destruction of the Library of Congress in 1814. This colonial building shows off columns and a dome. A silhouette portrait of Jefferson appears on one side of the front doors, and warm light streams from the windows of this illuminated porcelain building. The front displays the Latin words, Ipsa Scientia Potestas Est, or, Knowledge itself is Power, along with the instruction to remain Quiet Within. The sides feature the phrases, Books Constitute Capital and I Cannot Live Without Books. Carefully hand-painted, this village collectible makes a charming addition to your set with its New England style.
