The Steel Markward Gorget stands out due to its construction from three metal pieces rather than the typical two-part design. The steel gorget shows off a great look with curved sides and a bright metal finish. Straps on the sides allow the medieval gorget to attach to a pair of spaulders like the Large Steel Markward Spaulders (MY100068) or Small Steel Markward Spaulders (MY100075). We recommend wearing a padded collar or other arming wear underneath the metal gorget for increased comfort. This neck armour works great for LARPing, re-enactments, and Renaissance fairs.

Please be aware that this armour is handmade, and it can be thicker than listed here. As such, it is intended mainly for costuming, light reenactment, and LARP.

When purchasing armour pieces, in order for the pieces to be compatible, it is best to stay within the brand.

I’m really digging my gorget! The size is great for me, the weight is perfect, and the style adds a lot to my outfit. It is super easy to put on and take off by yourself, but I also have the steel Mina Spaulders which required some assistance putting on. Great purchase!

I’m a big guy (300lb 6ft even, 20 inch neck circumference), and this gorget didn’t work well for me in the least. The straps were unevenly punched / aligned and the contour didn’t fit my broad frame. That said, I think for someone smaller there is a lot going for this gorget. The ability to adjust both sides of the front plate could come in handy for someone, and the look of it is pretty cool. The front plate does end up tucking under the backplate and this was also a bit akward for me – it made a lot of noise and I’d have concerns about it rubbing over time creating scratches / requiring a bit more care. In the end, I went with the gustav gorget and paired that with my markward spaulders just fine.

The price here is pretty good, but overall it wasn’t for me.

I got this with the Adam spaulders and they work well together. I’m 6’3″, average build and it fits fine.

This is a really well designed and comfortable gorget. It doesn’t have the same issue of other gorgets, where they can be a little tight on the neck – especially when worn with a collared gambeson.

If you’re worried about pressure on your throat, and are happy with your neck being a little more exposed, I’d absolutely recommend these over a swing gorget.

This was my first piece of armor I have ever worn. That being said I’m going to be brutally honest.
    Pros.
    1. Plenty of room for your neck and easy to put on. I don’t even have to fit you head through it. It can just slip on over my shoulders and fasten the front plate.
    2. Three pieces secured together so it’s pretty easy to conform it your your shoulders.
    3. Plates are fairly thick, and doesn’t weigh too much.
    4. Easy to attach other armor pieces to the gorget. Very thick leather straps, I’m pretty confident my spaulders aren’t gonna fall off.
    5. Price is great.

    Cons.
    1. I know it comes shipped covered in grease, but dang, it didn’t seem just greasy, it felt almost filthy. A lot of the grease was black and crudy like used motor oil. Took some scrubbing to clear it off so it didn’t look like I wrestled an gelatinous oil cube. The rivets were the worst offenders, they were completely black and not the metallic silver.
    2. Under the grease some parts of the gorget were tarnished. The worst part was the hinge on the back of the gorget, it’s secured together with a thick strip of leather riveted to the metal. This is where I think it slightly started to rust.
    3. The metal bends fairly easy. This can be a good thing depending on what you’re using this for. Costuming? Great! Fashion statement? You bet! A duel to the death? It can probably take a good hit or two, but I wouldn’t expect it to be in usable condition if it gets hit hard. But you can bend it to any needs you might have. It won’t bend from just wearing it though.

All in all, it’s a decent piece and I’m pretty happy with it, just gotta get all the filthy grease off.

Easy to put on and take off, and fit me perfectly (16” shoulders, 16.5” neck). Only reason I’m docking a star is because they came beyond oily- basically slathered in engine grease, and also had some discoloration on it that took quite a bit of scrubbing to get off
