The Roman approach to war was simple and pragmatic, and thus the gladius became their primary sword for its ease of use and manufacture. Over time, the gladius was available in two distinct types, with this Roman Pompeii Sword being the later type. Like any gladius, this blade features a shorter length that facilitates close-quarters combat, which allowed skilled Roman wielders to draw, attack, and defend in swift and easy motions. This gladius is relatively simple in construction, featuring a carved hardwood hilt with a spherical pommel, a ribbed grip, and a rectangular guard set with a steel plate. The blade is made from carbon steel and features an unsharpened edge in the classic Pompeii style, which features parallel cutting edges and a triangular point. The sword includes a matching wood scabbard that is attractively wrapped in black leather and set with brass accents at the throat and chape, as well as a pair of carrying rings, which allows the gladius to be worn from a belt or a baldric in true Roman fashion (vertically at the waist). Simple and effective were two words that best described the Romans and their view of war, and this Roman Pompeii Sword embodies those concepts perfectly. As long as you wield it well whenever you don your Roman garb and armor, or display it proudly as a part of your collection and decor, then this sword will not soon disappoint.
