We have several of these now and they’re all pretty and useful. I recommend sanding and conditioning with a stable oil and beeswax blend (walnut and coconut are very stable). The color will darken A LOT after you condition them, but that just brings out the grain patterns. Make sure you wash these promptly after use using mild cleansers. Like a lot of traditional kitchen items (e.g. cast iron), they need to be treated right but they’ll serve well for a long time and look good doing it.

Our more recent bowls have had a little bug damage (minimal tiny surface holes in the bowls, and fine sawdust and other particles in the bags), so I can’t give them 5-stars, but with some sanding it’s not a big deal. It is a wood product after all and by purchasing items like this we’re making a statement that we prefer the ways of old, so, well, this is part of the ways of old. Just be aware. 🙂
