A beautiful sword and as told, impossible to break, though gets easily with scratches, it’s weight is balanced very good, but is heavier than real swords, and the price is very good.

Price is excellent for what this is. A great mock weapon / practice sword. Extremely durable and well made. Yes, definitely has a heft to it – makes you feel like you are holding something substantial in your hand. Excellent!

  3. Allison Williamson (verified owner)

Great quality and price for the well-crafted practice word.

Well, the price is excellent. Feels like a real sword, looks so great! Recommend for purchase

The balance on these swords is not really acceptable at all if Cold Steel is attempting to provide a useable sparring/practice sword. The POB on mine is 9.5″. Great for building up endurance, but a bit sketchy for anything else. Good news is it’s way underweight for a sword that size so an addition of 10oz of lead to the pommel brings the weight up to average and the POB down to approx 4.5″. A fair amount of work, but for a cheap practice sword I think it’s worth it. Just baffles me that Cold Steel makes training weapons with such terrible balance when it doesn’t seem to difficult to fix at the production stage.

The balance point is too far from the handle to use effectively with one hand. The sword is very strong and durable, but it is hard to train with because it is balanced like a club. When you try to swing it but stop in midair, the sword keeps going and sometimes hurts your hand. The cold steel Japanese swords don’t have great balance either but are overall less heavy than the European swords, making them much more easy to use. If you are looking for an affordable European sword, the Cold Steel Hand-and-a-half sword is much better, and costs only slightly more.

Not great to use and I don’t recommend sparring with it, but it looks pretty cool on my wall.

I’m not a sword or a sword-training expert, so refer to the other reviews for that kind of information; but I will agree that this sword is a workout to wield. However, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s good for developing grip strength and stretching the wrist, forearm and elbow. Sometimes I just fully extend my arm with the sword in hand and flex my wrist for a slow warmup. I’m fairly petite, so the sword is already big for me but I bought it mainly for the opportunity to beat up/hold my own against my grown sons. For that purpose, it’s just dandy!
