The Medieval Barbute Combat Helmet takes its shape from 15th century Italian design. This medieval soldiers helmet features a short ridge across the top of the head and comes in both 16 gauge steel and 18 gauge steel options. This medieval helm is characterized by its T-shaped opening in the front for visibility of the wearer and unrestricted ventilation. The sides of the visorless steel helmet sit close to the cheek for protection, and the back of the bottom edge flares out slightly. Inside, this steel barbuta is padded with an adjustable cotton canvas liner. A buckled leather chin strap secures the helm in place. Its polished finish is great for creating a shining armoured look for LARP, reenactment, or costume use.

I’m really happy with the look and feel of this helmet. The fit is great, too. The adjustable lining works very effectively. The only problem I have is some minor scuffs and scratches, but at this price, I wasn’t expecting it to be perfect. Overall, very good value for the money.

This helmet was pretty good, only complaint about the helmet itself was the one I got wasn’t quite like the one in the picture. The outward flair at the base of the helm visible in the front on picture was not really present. This is no fault of MC in the least, they use the stock photos provided to them by the manufacturer. As to the build quality of the helmet, aside from one manufacturing defect (chinstrap wasn’t stitched on one side) the build quality was top notch. The straps are nice thick leather with stitching and glue to reinforce stress points (aside from the aforementioned defect), the buckle is quality, and the adjustable padded liner is very nice. Once again MC’s customer service is one of the reasons I use them as my go to for my shopping needs. I contacted them about the defect and once they saw the pictures they immediately started the return and made it easy to get it taken care of with plenty of apologies (which weren’t needed as it wasn’t their fault). I think this helmet is still a great buy, especially at this price point, but MC’s customer service just makes it even better.
