A weapon favored by mounted warriors during the Middle Ages, the lance was known for its stupendous stopping power when used at a full gallop. The Man at Arms Lance Point Spear by Cold Steel is a functional replication of this medieval weapon. As is traditional for this type of spear, the head of this weapon is incredibly narrow and forms a fine triangular point at its tip. This design was amazingly effective, deriving its power from the speed of the mount to easily puncture armour of any thickness. An ash wood shaft is attached to the head, providing the reach necessary for a mounted knight to impale his enemy before they could strike him. Embrace your dream of being a medieval knight by experiencing their weapon of choice with the Man at Arms Lance Point Spear by Cold Steel.

Just arrived today, and overall I am thrilled with the purchase. That said, this is not a PERFECT piece, but as with most of the items from Cold Steel, it IS the *real deal.*

We’ll get the single flaw out of the way: The shaft, at least on mine was not straight. I wasn’t looking for perfection, but it did have a fairly visible bow to it – maybe 1/2 an inch, or just shy of that, at the high point, in the center. Over an 80″ length that’s PRETTY DAMNED GOOD, but not perfect, and it is noticeable, so… got to get that out of the way. Not quite 5*, but that was the only reason.

NOW… The GOOD: The steel point as the top is VICIOUS. three sharp edges taper for about 5″ into a *needle* point. And given the materiel, this point and these edges will KEEP. If you thrust this (or throw it) at something, it’s penetrating. No question. The shaft itself… It’s ASH. Basically what they make BASEBALL BATS out of. So it’s STRONG wood. And it’s light: The entire weapon it’s just a hair over 2 lbs, 9 oz – more or less the same weight as any of my one-handed swords. Of course it’s not BALANCED like a sword – it’s a metal spike on the end of a wooden pole after all! But even given the bow I mentioned before, this has a great feel for thrusting. Haven’t tried as full throw yet, but it does feel like it would make a good thrower as well.

Overall, very happy. A completely sturdy and functional weapon for a very good price. (I used points and had a store credit to boot, so I got it for a song, but it had been on my wish list at MC’s marked down price already, and I’d have been just as happy with it.) Highly recommend.

This is another great Cold Steel weapon. The shaft was stained brown and tapered for the point, rounded at the butt. The socket for the spearhead fit snugly. There were no screws included but I had some #4 5/8 inch wood screws that I had bought for another Cold Steel product and they fit perfectly. The 2 holes in the socket even allow you to countersink your securing screws. UPS box was open on one end and the shaft fell right out, so the screws may have fallen out also.
The head is wicked, a nice 3-edged tip with a sharp point. It came in a separate box included in the larger MC box, was bagged in plastic and covered with stinky oil for protection.
This is an excellent thrusting spear at a very nice price.
