No matter if you are fighting against the Scots or in the Crusades, the Longshanks Steel Kettle Helm will help to protect you in combat. Made from 19-gauge mild steel, this archers helmet comes in two sizes. To begin with, it has a rounded, bowl-shaped cap with a brim along the edges. The wide brim angles down and away from the cap, helping to deflect blows from the head.

Along the center, this helmet has a reinforcing strip for added protection. It runs from the front to the back. There are ridges in the middle of the strip and along the edges. Rivets attach the reinforcement strip to the cap. On the inside of the helmet, there is an internal liner. This medieval infantry helmet secures onto the head with a leather chin strap. Wear this kettle helm to your next LARP battle or medieval faire. It is sure to become a staple in your medieval gear.

Kettle Helm History

The kettle helmet began appearing in Europe in the 12th century. It gets its name from the fact that it looked like a kettle, or medieval cooking pot. The helmet was most common amongst infantry as it was ideal for protecting against sword swings from cavalry units. It was historically relatively inexpensive and did not interfere with vision, hearing, or breathing, adding to its popularity. A version of this medieval helmet reappeared in WWI, around 800 years after it was first being worn.
