This is a very fine product…does its job well. This fits perfectly under my plate armor, and really keeps my gorget from pinching. It is quite thick, and the collar actually stands up a bit taller than the pictures suggest. I would say about 3-1/2 to 3-3/4” inches in the back. It’s quite warm, but if you live in a cooler environment, no prob. Because of its thickness, it may present a problem with wearing some helmets that come down to neck level. Overall…very good for the price!…….Mark M.

Effective and menacing when combined with the rest of the Leopold set. I recommend tying each end of the drawstring in a simple knot upon delivery to allow it enough room to open and slide over your head without having to redo the lacing each time (and to limit fraying). It is quite warm, so if you can wear light modern active wear or minimal classic clothing beneath it, do so. Sizing: The shoulder padding is wide enough to extend approximately an inch beyond me narrow, feminine shoulders, and the collar normally brushes the underside of my jaw despite my fairly long neck. The drawstring covers my sternum, and the 4 to 6 inches between there and my neck are covered by the collar, which naturally draws together, leaving less than a square inch of neck exposed.

As was mentioned before, the collar is a little taller than it looks but it isn’t really a problem. It is very well made and will do it’s job perfectly.

This is a very good product and great quality. The material is very think and seems a bit still when you wear it and would think it happens movement. The color does stand up rather high and may impeed wearing a low cut helmet. BUt its a great piece and was happy to buy it.

I bought this to wear underneath chainmail and it’s amazing. I can barely tell I’m wearing the mail. I thought the standing collar would bother me but the material is so comfortable that it just ends up being cozy. I highly recommend this for underneath chainmail if you don’t want to go for the full gambeson.

This padded mantle is a nice accessory, and versatile. As suggested in other reviews, the collar does stand very tall – the sides of it touch my earlobes. But the material is very soft and not abrasive in the slightest. The padding is VERY thick and plush, and should provide long-lasting, comfortable wear under a gorget, or even more so as an accent piece paired with a robe and cloak – as I did.

Thick and heavy padded collar to protect your neck and shoulders during LARP combat

I have not used it in the field yet but it appears as though it will work well. It is well made and has very thick padding. Only negative thing I have is I wish the collar was shorter. The one I received does Not match the Image. It’s Collar appears to be twice as high as the one in the Image. The collars actual measurement is 4 in. in the Back tapering to 3.5 in. on the sides and 3 in. in the front before the point it curves down. But for the price it is a very good Collar.

Solid value and quality. A sturdy collar, thick, but pretty comfortable especially after you break it in a little bit.

This is actually the second one of these I’ve purchased. Obviously I like them. Made well, and gives a lot of padding and bulk to the area. I cut the collar off of one of them for a different look & feel. The collar is tall but will protect your neck well. I use these under heavy mixed metal & leather armor with lots of fur and bones and such attached. They look great with a suede mantle over them as well.

The padded collar is very well made. Though I measured before ordering, I didn’t account for the thickness of the padding and how stiff it is around the neck (for me). I was able to fold the neck down and place my gorget on top. It still looked great.

I bought this collar to accompany my gambeson, which did not have neck protection, so that it would keep chainmail from scratching my neck. It works wonderfully in that regard! The collar is certainly thick and comes up the neck taller than the images show. This could interfere with certain helmets, but it works fine with a chainmail coif. The shoulder/upper chest flaps can fold up when trying to put a hauberk on, which can be a pain to readjust and push back under the mail, but that’s the only issue I’ve had so far, and is a symptom of circumstance rather than an issue with the piece itself. Amazing product!

Excellent piece, especially for the price. I’m impressed by the quality of its stitching. I work from home and it’s cold in my home office, but luckily I’m a nerd and don’t mind wearing re-enactment gear Mon – Fri while managing client accounts. Quite cozy when combined with a gambeson. Just wish I had remembered to turn off the camera for my last Zoom call as I was forced to awkwardly explain to an important client that I would have preferred living in the 14th century.

This is exceptionally high value, and it does its job well in padding my shoulders under my mail. The neck is quite high for my liking though. It could benefit from multiple size options.
