When the cannons blast chunks out of the ground around you and the pikes close in to form deadly wooden traps, be sure to arm yourself with the Landsknecht Katzbalger Sword in case the enemy gets past your pikes.
Inspired by the Landsknecht Companies
Forged as one piece from C60 high-carbon steel, this German short sword is a reproduction of katzbalger swords from late medieval to Renaissance history. The katzbalger was a prominent sidearm among 16th to 17th Century mercenary groups like the Landsknechte and the Reislaufer, and were used as thrusting weapons to deadly effect. Robust, durable, and intimidating, this Landsknecht katzbalger is ideal for crowded combat environments like a push of pike.
The unsharpened, double-edged blade has five narrow fullers. The three in the middle run down the length of the blade. Two on either side end at the ricasso, also known as the thick and broad base of the blade. The tip is also rounded for extra safety.
Moving down to the hilt, the blackened iron S-guard ends in knobs on either side of the blade. Just underneath the iron guard is a brass blade collar. The wooden handle ends in a flared, iron fish-tail pommel. This wooden handle secures your one-handed grip. At the end of the tang, it has been hammered into a wide peen over the pommel for strength and support.
This historical Landsknecht sword comes with a wooden scabbard wrapped in black leather. Leather strips are wrapped around the top of the scabbard. The topmount and the round shape are made from brass. For added detail, the chape at the bottom of the scabbard has a fish-tail pattern.
Embrace Your Inner Sellsword
Add this reenactment short sword to your Landsknecht, Reislaufer, or late medieval character and step into the age of pike and shot warfare. Intended for chaotic pike and shot battles and close engagements, this 16th Century katzbalger sword is a must-have for your mercenary gear. This mercenary short sword is great for Doppelsoldners, handgunners, and pike wielders fighting on the battlefields of reenactment.
This katzbalger may look small, but its robust and tough design make it a force to be reckoned with. The blackened iron guard protects your grip by helping deflect enemy blows. Wield it one-handed while you hold a pike or halberd in the other. The one-handed grip gives you maneuverability and excellent thrusting power. When you’re not fighting in epic reenactment battles, you can add this late medieval short sword to your collection. Show it off with your favorite swords as a reminder of tough mercenaries.
