The halberd came to prominence during the 14th and 15th centuries, when a weapon was needed that combined the heavy swing and momentum of an axe with the reach and versatility of the spear. This Halberd Hanger Ford fills that niche quite nicely. Unlike most halberds of the day, though, this halberd is distinctive in that its axe blade is deceptively small, featuring a crescent shaped blade with barbed points along the back edge, as well as a gisarme-like hook on the reverse side of the weapon. The result is that this weapon lacks the ability to cut effectively, yet when swung, the momentum all focuses on the small head, which leads to heavy impacts and deep, effective injuries in battle. This means that in spite of a smaller axe-blade, this weapon remains every bit as effective as its broader cousins. And thanks to the spear point and the gisarme-like hook, this weapon is nothing but versatile, giving a skilled wielder choices galore when it comes time to approach a foe with the intent to battle. The head of this useful pole weapon is crafted from carbon steel and measures approximately 23.75 inches long, while the hardwood haft measures approximately 72 inches long. It might lack the impressive size of other halberds, but that does not change the fact that this Halberd Hanger Ford is every bit the weapon that it looks, making it a great piece of medieval history to either collect or practice with whenever you head out to work on your mastery of medieval martial arts.
