Sabers can trace their origins back as far as the 1500s, to the European backsword. Originally a functional arms, they have remained a common part of a soldier or officers attire, even into modern times. This German SS Saber is one such example of that. The sword hails from World War II era items, being specifically designed as the dress saber of the SS, or the Schutzstaffel, or protection squadron. The saber possesses a straight, polished, blade that is hand crafted from carbon steel. The strait single edge and fine point make it look like an authentic weapon, while its little touches of detailing give it that ornamental flare of a dress sword. The hilt is cast-steel with a knuckle guard, while the grip features black leather wrapping with brass wire inlay, as well as a circular emblem set with two stylized Armanen sig runes. Included with the sword is a matched blackened steel scabbard with silver-steel fittings at the throat and chape, as well as a hanging ring for easy and convenient carrying. As a collectible and weapon, this German SS Saber is a fine piece of history and military memorabilia, as well as a great accent for use in completing WW2 era costumes, and a variety of other new looks that might not yet exist, too.
