Dress in historical or vampire fashion with this medallion necklace! The Enameled Order of The Dragon Pendant features a dragon biting its own tail in front of a double-barred cross among purple enamel. Each medallion is skillfully handcrafted one at a time in sterling silver. This medallion is enameled with a rich purple color. The enamel will not wear out with regular wear. This item comes in a two-piece pinstripe jewelry box.
This pendant is a replica of the Order of the Dragon symbol that Vlad the Impaler, better known as Dracula, used to signify his membership in the Order. It is believed that he wore this image as a medallion during his lifetime. The Order of the Dragon was founded in 1408 by Sigismund, the King of Hungary, for the purpose of defending the Cross and fighting against the enemies of Christianity, especially the Ottoman Turks. Dracula derived his name from the Order of the Dragon, and Dracula means Son of the Dragon. His father, Vlad II, received the surname of Dracul, meaning dragon, when he was inducted into the Order in 1431. Dracula himself was inducted into the Order when he was five years old.
