Struck in 49BC, this reproduction denarius coin is made from lead-free pewter and celebrates Caesars conquest of Gaul. The coin has the Emperors name and an elephant trampling a serpent on one side and a simpulum, sprinkler, axe, and priests hat on the other, publicizing his office as chief priest. The coin is held in a clear plastic blister and is supplied in full color pamphlet style packaging, complete with images and historical information of both the coin and life of Julius Caesar.
Gaius Julius Caesar was a Roman military and political leader and one of the most influential men in world history. He played a critical role in the transformation of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire, and his conquest of Gaul extended the Roman world all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. He made two military expeditions to Britain in 54 and 55 BC. Unhappy with Caesars reforms, Marcus Junius Brutus conspired with others to murder the dictator and restore the Republic. The assassination occurred on March 15th 44 BC and led to another civil war.
