Give your armored look a touch of darkness with the Black Alaric Chainmail Hood. Made from butted rings, the mild steel of this hood has been chemically colored for its unique, darkened appearance. The rings form a 4-in-1 pattern that consists of four chainmail rings woven through another ring. This hood provides comprehensive coverage that is sure to make it a favorite, protecting the head, neck, and part of the shoulders. Only the face of the wearer is left uncovered. The chemical coloration lends the coif some protection from rust. With proper maintenance, this armour piece will become a long-lasting staple in your medieval armour ensembles. Excellent fit and quality. Don’t forget your arming cap! Arrived with a heavy coat of mystery grease (not a bad thing as it prevented rust, but I wouldn’t recommend wearing before degreasing and re-lubricating with something non-toxic). I degreased with purple ZEP (industrial) in a 5 gallon bucket, scrubbing to agitate and then soaking the hood for about 15-20 minutes. Rubbed off what I could, rinsed with a pressure washer and dried with hair dryer, and finally applied a generous coat of Fluid Film to lubricate and prevent corrosion since FF is non-toxic and non-hazardous. I highly recommend wearing rubber gloves and degreasing in a well-ventilated area.
