Notable for its shorter sleeves and length, the haubergeon, or Little Hauberk, was often worn under a plated hauberk in the 14th century. The 48 Inch Mercenary Grade Blackened Mail Haubergeon offers great coverage and protection.

Butted mail is the most economical construction style of mail, as the cost of labor-intensive riveting is avoided. Butted mail has limited historical precedent but is fine for general costuming and role-playing where strict construction authenticity is not a requirement. It is not recommended for weapons-contact re-enactment as mild steel butted rings may be distorted by heavy weapons contact.

The rings are formed from round section wire and have a 10 mm internal diameter. This item is crafted from 16 gauge mild steel. Construction is in the 4 in 1 pattern that consists of four chainmail rings woven through another ring.

Key Features:

  • Uses 4 in 1 chainmail pattern
  • Features 10 mm round ring butted construction
  • Great for costuming and role-playing
  • Made by GDFB
  • Blackened Finish

  • 16 Gauge Mild Steel

Care Instructions:

  • Store in a ventilated plastic tub
  • Keep in a warm, dry location

    Great item. Fits accurately.

Some of the links come out though. Not a big issue as a simple twist with some pliers and its all fixed. I think its because they are ring butted instead of riveted and got jostled around during shipping.

As for a “legit looking” ren gear, it works! Good stuff.

I’m a 42 inch chest and it fits with a tunic. Gambeson would be to tight with it unless you have a slimmer chest or its a thin gambeson.

This is a great product, came pre-oiled and ready for wear. No split or missing links, not uneven, doesn’t even pinch or pull hair as I slip it on. The only thing I can say about this (and this isn’t even necessarily a bad thing) is that if you happen to have a relatively large head (as I do) getting your head through the head opening takes just a bit of effort. But nothing that would dissuade me from purchasing this again, it’s a great set of mail. I’m 6’1 and 195lbs, this is a snug, but not too tight a fit, and the sleeves are the perfect length. Everything is as it should be. No one wants baggy mail. Oh and if you can’t slip it off vertically, a little tip, bend all the way over and it’ll slide off you easily. I may have struggled a bit.
