The terror of the battlefield was the medieval knight, charging the field on a warhorse with fine weapons and greater training. This 14th C. Medieval Bardiche, though, was the foot soldiers answer to these highly skilled mounted masters of war. The bardiche was likely originally derived from weaponized farm tools, as well as inspired by the realization that long-hafted weapons not only to kept foes away, but also extended the wielders reach and improved impact via leverage and weight, too. This bardiche is among one of the shorter staff-based weapons, but length was never intended to be its strongest point. Impact is. This bardiche features a massive blade, made entirely from 1060 carbon steel hardened in oil and annealed to a hardness of 53 Rockwells, mounted onto its wooden haft. The blade is mounted in two places, leaving an opening for the hand while also accommodating for greater leverage on every swing, ensuring this bardiche can be wielded in true medieval fashion. The tip of the blade extends up from the haft and has a pair of points along its back, giving this weapon a deadly backswing that could be used to hook riders off their horses. This 14th C. Medieval Bardiche is a faithful recreation of a German piece that appears in the Pitt Rivers Museum Collection in Oxford, UK, and now, it is a brutal weapon that you can enjoy in your own reenactments, medieval adventures, and more.
