Leopold is mainly remembered outside Austria for his participation in the Third Crusade. He arrived to take part in the siege of Acre in spring 1191, having sailed from Zadar on the Adriatic coast. He took over command of what remained of the imperial forces after the death of Frederick VI, Duke of Swabia in January. While England comes to mind first when the subject of knights and chivalry is raised, there were other countries and figures who stood out in historical records for their performance in war. Leopold Duke of Austria was one such figure, duplicated here in miniature size, but full detail of the armor worn in that period, and the rich caparisoned horse that carried him into battle.
