This surcoat, replicating those worn by the Teutonic knights in the Crusades. As a practical alternative for summer wear, we have produced a linen version of the Teutonic surcoat, complete with its distinctive black cross. Founded in 1191, this order began with the simple motto of Helfen, Wehren, Heilen, which translates to Help, Defend, Heal. This motto originally defined this orders purpose: they were to aid the sick and injured by building and protecting hospitals.
