The Spanish Breastplate by Marto is a one-piece breastplate covering the wearers front. This typical design of breast plate was typical of the Spanish armory of the 16th century and was mainly worn by foot soldiers. This particular breast plate, however, is enriched by etched decorations, depicting floral and mythological motifs, making this item primarily decorative, rather than an accurate historical representation of what a soldier would have worn in that era. The breastplate was fastened to the body through leather belts that cross themselves on the back.
